Fanto brought a wealth of musical knowledge, not to mention an incredible amount of enthusiasm, to the table throughout the glory years of Downtownsounds.

He was the only DTS resident who wasn’t living in Dublin at the time, moving to Manchester in 2002 to study, and taking up a place behind the counter at the city’s legendary Piccadilly Records store. It just so happened that The Unabombers’ ‘Electric Chair’ parties – a huge formative influence on Downtownsounds and our first international guests – were in full swing.

Beyond the Chair itself, it was a golden era for the city’s DJ culture, from the ‘Fat City’ record store across the road from Piccadilly to the extended Rae and Christian/Grand Central crew, there were dancefloor bombs to be dug out in all four corners of the city, each and every week. You can hear the evidence for yourself on the mixes the man himself put together for the site, including the immortally titled ‘2 Much Rump’ and ‘I Wanna Sock’…
